7 Things Doctors Do Not Want You To Know

7 Things Doctors Do Not
Want You To Know

Rev. Dr. Thomas M. Wallace DD ThD

You are not alone if you have ever wondered about what motivates a doctor to make the decisions and choices they do. Have you ever left a doctor’s appointment feeling like you just wasted your time? When you talk to your doctor do you feel like it’s an uphill battle with a super ego? Let me shed a little light on what’s really going on buy sharing with you the seven things doctors do not want you to know about them and their practice.

  1. Doctors are in the medical business. They must have patients who requireservices in order to generate income. They must generate income to remainin business. Much like any other business, they must pay their bills and meet the payroll required to run the practice. Bottom line: they have to do what it takes to bring in the money.

  1. Doctors practice medicine defensively. That explains why a simple diagnosis requires so many tests. Between medical school, internship, residency, and the experience with the day to day trends, they know what’s wrong, and what they can and can not do. But they need to be able to defend themselves in a court of law. We live in a litigious society and doctors are perceived as deep pockets by most lawyers.

  1. Doctors practice medicine financially. If you have commercial insurance or you are paying cash you will receive prompt appointments and better than average treatment. Patients with Medicare, Medicaid, Medi-Cal or other government assistance are less likely to receive the best treatment or timely appointments.
Let’s face facts, government based health insurances are slow to pay and filled with numerous, expensive, time consuming protocols to adhere to.

  1. Doctors receive “kickbacks” (financial remuneration for performance) from other medically related business associates, whom they send “business” too, such as; Pharmacies, Pharmaceutical manufacturers, Pathology Labs, Radiology Labs, Hospitals, Skilled nursing facilities, and Rehabilitation Centers. Every time you receive services form such places, the doctor who referred you there receives a “monetary thank you”.

  1. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” This time tested scientific axiom is often ignored in favor of increased profits and “keeping the customer satisfied”. Reminder: Every time you ingest a pharmaceutical substance you are at risk of an “equal and opposite reaction”. Today’s pharmaceutical industry has removed the idea of “reactions” and refers to them as “possible side effects”.

Please use caution. Look at all the medications that have been pulled off the market after the manufacture losses in court. Even birth control pills have been found to cause heart attack, stroke, and various cancers. Look out for number one, do your home work.

  1. Doctors will always choose pharmaceutical therapies over the natural or homeopathic. Again, they receive financial incentives and it keeps the customer coming back. Businesses need return customers to stay in business. Practicing medicine with a prescription pad has proven it’s self to be very lucrative. Doctors justify this with their need to off set the low payment structure of the insurance companies.

  1. Doctors hate insurance companies. They detest being told how to practice medicine. They are directed to use a particular protocol when deciding on treatments and medications.  Yes, doctors receive monetary inducement not to prescribe certain expensive drugs, modalities, and tests. But they are also toldwhat they can and cannot do. Insurance companies decide who gets admitted to hospitals not the doctors.

Do your self a favor and do your homework when it comes to doctors, treatments, drugs,
and medical facilities. Rule number one: YOU ARE THE BOSS! Now start acting like it.

Take care.

Pastor Tom
