My Thoughts on Magic

Magic, an art that brings wonders, mysteries and astonishment. I was so fortunate to come across the opportunity to learn this art some years ago, and it has been one of my biggest passion ever since then. I learn it with the sheer interest that for all the time I had been so amazed by the concept, delicate arrangement, wisdom and skills involved in this mysterious art. Since I was a child, magic

Blaine's challenge

David Blaine, the hottest name in magic, my idol of all time. Bought his book 'Mysterious Stranger' some years ago and I remember seeing a challenge created by him with $100,000 reward to winner. Clues and codes scattered in his book need to be deciphered and will lead to a location with the 'treasure map', then the treasure. It's interesting but honestly i dun think the 'clues' in the book

Riot!

String Theory has finally found a home - for a month or so. Riot - a NY/LA editing house is the perfect venue: a hallway flanking editing bays with wall space, and a brick wall as anchor at the end.
I will be incorporating some of Bead Meditation, its companion project. And I'm really excited to see the work come together in this way.
I love that this installation links two parts of my life, that of advertising copywriter and visual artist.
Larry spent most of his weekend trying to get our printer to work for two photos from prayingproject I wanted to frame and use in the exhibition. Then, hours trying to edit a video of the performance.
More about that arduous task when I have a bit more distance. On to price lists and accompanying materials.
As usual, I'm pulling things together on the fly. Opportunities always present at challenging moments. I'm off to Omega for a 2 week residency at end of week. So pulling this together before I leave is going to be a testament to speed and flexibility, two remants of my early training days as a retail copy cub that serve me well in art and life.

I'm Here

The actual date of this post is 10th Oct 2006. I finally switched to blogger.com. Wasn't really into blogging until now that i realized it could be a really good site to write down some important milestones of life. Since this is gonna be the main blog for long (i guess), i would sorta 'import' my posts from my previous one. Just to make it complete. Hopefully can share some interesting points of

Celebrity Sightings & Art Openings

Larry and I used to play a game called "Celebrity Near Sightings" when we lived in L.A. It was pretty unusual to be out and about and not sight a celebrity. But Larry had a propensity for thinking someone was someone when they weren't. Hence the "Near Sightings". We've continued to play this in New York, where real sightings just aren't so frequent, I think more because New Yorkers have less need to be seen. LA is all about being seen.
Walking through Soho last night, Larry actually had a real celebrity sighting, and since he's been taking his new digicam everywhere, he actually caught a snap of Karl Lagerfeld on the move.
We'd been to an opening at Woodward Gallery, for Jo Ellen Van Ouwerker: Somewhere in Time. Jo Ellen used to train with us at Seido Karate. The crowd was peppered with artists, white collar and professional boxers from her husband's famed Gleason's Gym and the ever present little old NYC lady who needs a glass of wine and a toilet.
I'm fortunate to be able to visit the gallery on lunch hours from my Soho freelance gig. The work is air brushed, with various refrences to vintage photography and techniques, and she has begun to frame some of the prints and originals with hand made tin frames done in Mexico by some of the last surviving craftsman of this time- honored metal smithing method.
Being Cinco de Mayo, we tried to have a bite at Harry's in the Village, but not up for the 45 minute wait, we did take out and curled up in front of CSI for dinner.

Mantra of Mundaneity

From ecstatic embrace to the rituals of every day living. Doing laundry with a washing machine that needs constant repair. Sitting on the front porch in watch of the 15 year old cat who has just gone blind. Doing the dance of dualities confrontation and compassion in response to a loved one's struggles with work and life. These are the things we return to again and again after melting into the universe, losing ourselves in sacred time, finding our selves unified, whole, complete, ready to return to the inevitable. Blessing each moment for whatever it brings.
