I have been thinking a lot about blogging lately. But there's a big difference between thinking and doing.
This morning I am taking photographs of work to submit to the Dorsky Museum open call for Hudson Valley artists. Taking photos of my work really engages me in a process that is very connected to the creation of the work itself. In fact, until I start taking photographs and trying to conceptualize how to present my work, it remains unfinished in a sense. Taking photographs allows me to see with different eyes. A third eye if you will. And the work changes. Morphs. Transcends its original state.
After downloading the photos and taking a quick critical look, before heading back to my studio to troubleshoot some issues and explore other options, I decided to do a quick search for art using prescription bottles. I'm always concerned that I may be doing something that's already been done. I like to be original. And I imagine jurors and curators are not looking for work that has been done before. They are looking for fresh visions.
Here's what I came across. As always, delighted and inspired.
